In 2016, I was in New York and living there without any purpose, this is the first time I lived alone/ abroad. Without the loneliness of isolated, I was fulfilled by the freshness of the unexplored city.

The photos is the Hostel I lived back then.

After I came back to Taiwan, the film was developed. Looking at these photos, it starts to have some surreal feelings, the black and white toned, the coarse grained image and the strong contrast photo doesn’t match the scene from my memory; but the details within the photo reminds me that I did lived here before: the calendar on the wall, the dining table beside the fridge, and the guy in the mirror. But an idea is still haunting in my head : Were I at here?

 

Hsia-Ning Wu’s photography work “ AT ( New York ) ” photographed the hostel and the space he lived, a random snap of life recorded the living scene back then. And after he was back to Taiwan, he started to question did he ever at that space? The surreal black and white toned and the coarse grained image, but with all the signs that he’s once lived there. The work point out the idea of “ AT? ” to further the following question of “ exist? ”
